Clean, safe drinking water in today's world is scarce. People in lesser developed countries don't have access to water. Today nearly one billion people in the world don't have access to water. In more developed countries people take water for granted and waste water and don't see the impact it has on people who can't access water. Water is essential for life, if you don't drink water us as humans can't survive on the earth. In places such as Sub-Saharan Africa many women spend most of their time and effort trying to find water. They walk miles and miles to find water which takes up most of their days.
In Africa south of the sahara is where agriculture is mostly rainfed, farmers' access to water is limited based on time(droughts) and space(arid areas). Water sources are mostly focused on for agricultural purposes and the population itself can't adequate water source for it's own. Each year people from the sub-saharan region of Africa loses 40 billion hours per year spending time on searching for water. Causes for water scarcity are due to physical water scarcity and economic water scarcity. Physical water scarcity is where natural water resources aren't present for a specific region. Economic water scarcity is where the government controls the water use and uses it for other reasons and not evenly distributing it to the people. Water scarcity is a problem that us humans can't afford to have. People in the world need to have clean safe drinking water available to them at all times. Solutions include a proper sewer system, without proper sanitation water can become ridden with disease and cause many problems.
